What Doesn't Kill Me Only Makes Me Stronger

If the last roadie was a "beat down" then this evening's ride was a "beaten down." Sincere thanks to the duo of Rob and Bob who took us on a 90 minute lung-busting whirlwind tour of the park. I know it was race-pace (for me) because my fingers were tingling and my field of vision had narrowed so much it was like looking through a toilet paper tube. Good stuff and I look forward to getting beaten down again real soon - "what doesn't kill me only makes me stronger" and all that good stuff.

I am off to the Adirondacks for the long weekend so will miss the Thursday and Sunday rides. I know Mike stumbled, badly, as ride leader last Sunday (an honest stumble for an Irishman) but I can see the fire is back (no fire last Sunday) and so I will pass the baton to him, again, confident that he will rally the troops (and confident that you troops rally to his war cry).

The customary ride times are Thursday 8:30pm and Sunday 8:00am departing from Mike's place - feel free to adjust to suit your needs. Of course a curfew is in effect for Mike on Wednesday and Saturday night.

Have a great weekend.

Chris

  1. The timing of last night's ride was absolutely spectacular. The return route included a biking magazine worthy sunset as we headed back from the bonus loop. Even though I could barely breathe and my legs felt like they were incased in concrete at that point, I will always remember chasing Rob up the hill, glancing the early evening moisture glisten on the high grass, the dust we were kicking up clouding the view as one of my pinnacle moments of riding. Those of you who have been sitting on the couch really need to get out and experience some of this. Priceless.

I am suggesting we move the Thurs ride to the same time, 7:00pm start from upper. If there is anyone who was going to ride, but can not make the new time, speak up and we will keep the 8:30 start, not a problem.

Note to those of you who have indicated that night rides are not your bag or do not possess lights, the new start time makes this a daylight ride. And Friday is a holiday, so no excuses. Towards the end, it gets a little dim in the woods, but 2 of the 4 last night did not have lights and did fine.

Speak up on your preference of time. Deference to the 7:00pm start will be kept confidential.

  2. The correct phase is: "Chick's dig THE long ball", slightly less gross sounding than "chicks dig long balls", unless your into that sort of thing. Here's where the phrase came from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKAJIvQRSzE , there was a follow up commercial with Randy Johnson muttering it in the batting cages, but I couldn't find that one. It means chick's dig the big hitter, the sprinter, the guy who hits 350 yards off the tee, and the rider who gets the top of the climb first. Competence is boring...

  3. Thank you for the clarification. It did seem a little more crass than last night, I just chalked that up to lack of oxygen flowing to my brain during the ride.

Thinking of cracking off an early one tomorrow before work, say 6:30ish. Mike I think that would make tomorrow the first double header of the year, a "long ball" of sorts... Anybody interested?
